Important Dates & Deadlines
Student is expected to meet with Med. Tech Advisor prior to the beginning of each semester for planning of class schedule. Use right column to enter dates for each item completed.

Enroll in the Medical Technology Major leading to the Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. See Requirements for B.S. in Medical Technology. Meet with Dan Petr - Med. Tech Advisor, Department of Biology, for academic advising and planning of class schedule. See Suggested Four Year Class Schedule. | |

Take the "Academic Profile Survey". This test of General writing, reading, and math skills is required for all Freshmen. | |

Request a "Degree Audit" from the Records Office. This will be your official guide as to what classes still remain to be taken to complete your degree. | |
| JUNIOR YEAR | ||

Meet with academic advisor to check that you meet the SWAU "Residency Requirement". | |
| First Week of School |
Complete a "Senior Program Form" and return it to the Records Office. Med. Tech. majors must file this form at the beginning of their Junior Year since that is their last year on campus. Once signed, this form becomes a binding "Senior Contract". | |
| First Semester Around Nov. 5 or Nov. 15 |
Take the "Academic Profiles Survey". This test of general writing, reading, and math skills is required for all seniors. Med Tech. majors must take this test in their Junior Year since that is their last year on campus. | |
| Before end of First Semester |
Complete and "Application for Graduation".and file it at the Records Office, three semesters before expected graduation date. | |
| First Week of Second Semester |
Obtain, complete, and mail a "Clinical Program Application". for the senior year. See Application Deadlines for clinical programs. Applications are available from Dan Petr at the Department of Biology. The application process includes furnishing references and an interview. | |
| Before end of Second Semester Around Apr. 16 |
Take the "Major Field Achievement Test". This test of skills in the Biological sciences is required for all Med. Tech majors before they leave campus for their senior year of clinical training. | |

| Early Summer Affiliated Hospital Program |
Begin clinical training at affiliated hospital institution of your choice. See Startup Dates at affiliated hospitals. See Financial Information | |
| Second Semester March 15 Filing Deadline |
File an "Application for Deferred Graduation" (PDF format). This application requires your Med. Tech. advisor's signature. You can print out this application and mail it to Dan Petr, Med. Tech. advisor, Department of Biology, SWAU, 100 W. Hillcrest Drive, Keene, TX 76059. You may also send the application directly to the Records Office and they will obtain the advisor's signature. Filing this application allows a student to march with their graduating class in May, however, the diploma will not be received until later in the summer when the clinical program is completed. | |
| Graduation, First Weekend in May |
Return to SWAU for graduation weekend. March with your graduating class as deferred summer graduate. | |
| Summer Affiliated Hospital Program |
Take the NAACLS (National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences)"Certification Exam". This test is taken at the end of the senior clinical year. This national certification will allow you to work anywhere in the United States. | |
| Late Summer | See that transcripts are sent from hospital institutions to SWAU. Pick up or obtain by mail a SWAU diploma with Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology. | |
