Welcome to A&P 101 an integrated study of human anatomy and physiology. This course consists of three hours of lecture and three hours of lab per week (expect to be in lab for the full three hours). This course does not apply towards a Biology major or minor. Your efforts will be rewarded in the following manor…
90-100% = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C 60-69% = D <59% = F Hourly and final comprehensive exam = 65% of final semester grade. Lecture quizzes = 10% of final semester grade. Laboratory quizzes = 5% of final semester grade. Laboratory exercise = 20% of final semester grade. Note-Fractions of a percentage will be rounded to the nearest whole percentage. |
Both lab and lecture quizzes will be given in the first ten minutes of class, DON’T BE LATE. Lecture and lab quizzes will not be given twice. Lecture quiz dates are given in the lecture outline. Lab quizzes will be given weekly and will mostly reflect the previous week’s lab material. All labs are due at the end of lab and will be returned to you in about a week. Do not plan on getting your lab worksheets back for review before the next quiz. This is just not always possible.
The final exams for both semesters will be comprehensive, based upon previous tests and any recent lecture material. Also, I as the instructor reserve the right to adjust the grading schedule to accurately reflect your level of comprehension. This usually works to your advantage. Also, absolutely no extra credit will be given to any one individual. Any extra credit that may be given will be available to the whole class equally; after all this is college.
Online resources (CourseCompass) are included with your textbook purchase. CourseCompass allows you to access many study helps including flashcards, review quizzes, muscle and bone tutorials, on line tutorials with real instructors, syllabus and grad book access. To register, have your CourseCompass ISBN number and Course ID ready (taylor51122). Log on at http://www.coursecompass.com . Grade book access can also be made through www.eclassinfo.com , you will need your university assigned student ID number and your six digit password assigned to you by your instructor. Additional syllabuses can be obtained through the SWAU Biology Home page at http://biology.swau.edu . Also provided on reserve in the library are previously used test bank questions and answers that can be checked out for two hours at a time. Do not remove these from the library for any reason!
In order to be successful in this class you will need to READ, READ, READ, be prompt, take good lecture notes, work in study groups, review all textual and online resources, do well on quizzes and tests, show up for labs, be attentive, and be able to memorize materials quickly. You will also need protective eyewear, gloves and a dissecting kit (all available in the campus Book SAC). Remember, your success and mine are linked. You are not out there alone. We can do this together, but you must give it 110%. Good luck!
