COURSE OBJECTIVES

The intent of this course is to study basic botanical information in the context of human use of and involvement with plants (Applied Botany).

This course, then, will include:

  1. A study of the basic structure, growth, and reproduction of plants.
  2. An examination of the environmental factors that impact plant success and/or failure.
  3. Important information on plant care and propagation.
  4. Consideration of the roles plants play in our lives.

Important to the best possible understanding of botanical principles and the important roles of plants to us will be the student's participation in laboratory and field experiences, including a 4-day field trip that focuses on several aspects of applied botany.
